Qatar lifts temporary ban on frozen seafood from India

Reason for ban: Detection of Vibrio cholera in a few consignments.

Ban imposed on: November 2022, ahead of FIFA World Cup

Ban lifted on: February 16, 2023

Restrictions still continue on: Export of chilled seafood

Efforts were made by Department of Commerce under the Government of India, embassy of India in Qatar to lift the ban.

This week is proving to be very good for the seafood exporters in India, considering a similar lift in the suspension by China. Officials hope that the restrictions by Qatar on the chilled seafood will also be cleared soon after a reassessment of the situation.

Beijing lifted suspension of 99 Indian seafood-processing exporters on February 14, 2023, after acknowledging India’s assurance over source control.
