12-Jan-2023: PM pays tributes to Swami Vivekananda on his Jayanti
Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902) was a spiritual leader and a key figure in the introduction of Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world. He was a disciple of the 19th century Indian mystic Ramakrishna and was the founder of the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission.

Vivekananda traveled to the United States in 1893 and represented India at the first World's Parliament of Religions in Chicago, where he gave a series of lectures on Hinduism and the spiritual practices of India. His speeches, particularly his opening address, were well received and he became known as "The Messenger of Indian Wisdom to the Western World."

Vivekananda's teachings emphasized the importance of practical spiritual education, the unity of all religions, and the potential of every individual to achieve spiritual enlightenment. He also emphasized the importance of social service and the need to alleviate poverty and suffering.

After his return to India, Vivekananda established the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission, which continue to be influential spiritual organizations in India and around the world. He is also considered as a youth icon in India, and his birthday is celebrated as National Youth Day in India.

Vivekananda's speeches and writings have been widely translated and continue to be popular today. He is considered as one of the most important spiritual leaders of modern India and his teachings continue to inspire many people around the world.

12-Jan-2023: PM pays tributes to Rajmata Jijau on her Jayanti

Rajmata Jijau (also known as Jijabai) was the mother of Shivaji, the founder of the Maratha Empire in western India. She was born in 1598 in the Deccan Plateau region of India and was the daughter of Lakhujirao Jadhav, the chief of Sindkhed. Jijabai was known for her intelligence, wisdom, and strong personality, and is said to have played a major role in shaping her son Shivaji's character and political views. She was an advocate of education and is credited with instilling in Shivaji the values of courage, justice, and compassion. She was also a patron of arts and culture, and is said to have been an accomplished poet and musician.

Jijau's role in shaping Shivaji's childhood and upbringing is widely known and considered instrumental in Shivaji's success as a ruler. Her name is also remembered as a symbol of mother's role in a child's upbringing, education and moral development, in Maharashtra.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the closing ceremony of the yearlong celebrations of 400th Birth Anniversary of Lachit Barphukan on 25th November, 2022 at 11 AM in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

It has been the constant endeavour of the Prime Minister to honour the unsung heroes in a befitting manner. In line with this, the country is celebrating 2022 as the 400th birth anniversary year of Lachit Barphukan. The celebrations were inaugurated in February this year by the then Hon’ble President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind in Guwahati.

Lachit Barphukan (24th November, 1622 — 25th April, 1672) was the famous General of the Royal Army of the Ahom Kingdom of Assam who defeated the Mughals and successfully halted the ever expanding ambitions of the Mughals under Aurangzeb. Lachit Barphukan inspired the Assamese soldiers in the Battle of Saraighat fought in 1671, and delivered a crushing and humiliating defeat on the Mughals. The heroic fight of Lachit Barphukan and his army remains one of the most inspiring military feats of resistance in the history of our country.
