List of Indian harvest festivals
- Makar Sankranti: The festival of Makar Sankranti (Andhra, Telangana and Maharashtra) is being celebrated when the Sun enters the Makar zodiac and the days begin to lengthen compared to nights.
- Pongal: In South India and particularly in Tamil Nadu, it’s the festival of Pongal which is being celebrated over 4 days at harvest time.
- Magha Bihu: In Assam and many parts of the North East, the festival of Magha Bihu is celebrated. It sees the first harvest of the season being offered to the gods along with prayers for peace and prosperity.
- Uttarayan: Gujarat celebrates it in the form of the convivial kite festival of Uttarayan.
- Maghi: In Punjab, Makar Sankranti is celebrated as Maghi. Bathing in a river in the early hours on Maghi is important.
- Saaji: In Shimla District of Himachal Pradesh, Makara Sankranti is known as Magha Saaji. Saaji is the Pahari word for Sankranti, start of the new month. Hence this day marks the start of the month of Magha.
- Kicheri: The festival is known as Kicheri in Uttar Pradesh and involves ritual bathing.

23-Oct-2018: World's longest sea crossing: Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge opens
The HZMB was opened to the public by Chinese leader Xi Jinping. The Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge (HZMB) is a 55-kilometre (34 mi) bridge–tunnel system consisting of a series of three cable-stayed bridges, an undersea tunnel, and four artificial islands. It is both the longest sea crossing and the longest open-sea fixed link in the world. The HZMB spans the Lingding and Jiuzhou channels, connecting Hong Kong, Macau, and Zhuhai—three major cities on the Pearl River Delta.
The HZM Bridge was designed to last for 120 years and cost 127 billion yuan (US$18.8 billion) to build. The cost of constructing the Main Bridge was estimated at 51.1 billion yuan (US$7.56 billion) funded by bank loans and shared among the governments of mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau.
Originally set to be opened to traffic in late 2016, the structure was completed on 6 February 2018 and journalists were subsequently taken for a ride over the bridge.
List of new districts
30-Sep-2018: Niwari is 52nd district of MP
Niwari will become the 52nd district of Madhya Pradesh, with effect from October 1. A proposal to this effect was cleared by the state Cabinet.
IAS officer Akshay Kumar Singh (2010-batch) will hold the interim charge of the first District Collector of the new district till further orders.
