17-Nov-2022: National Museum, India and Kolding Museum, Denmark sign Memorandum of Understanding of exhibition “Silver treasures from Denmark and India"
In the beginning of March, 2023 Museum Kolding and the National Museum in New Delhi will open the joint exhibition "Silver treasures from Denmark and India". An MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) of the exhibition was signed and exchanged between the National Museum, New Delhi, India and the Museum Kolding, Kolding, in New Delhi today.
The exhibition will showcase the finest of the silver collection from the Museum Kolding and the National Museum in New Delhi in March 2023. The collaboration and exhibition is under the recently agreed cultural exchange programme between India and Denmark for the years 2022 to 2026.
The exhibition "Silver treasures from Denmark and India" is focused on the Danish and Indian Silver artefacts where both museums will show the best silver objects from their collections. Elucidating the beauty and magnificence of silver craftsmanship in both the countries, the exhibition will showcase the best select of 200 objects in total. For the first time, at the National Museum visitors will be able to see the parallel traditions of the Indian and Danish silver objects.
On the occasion, H.E. Freddy Svane, Danish Ambassador to India said that “I am very happy to note that Museum Kolding and National Museum in New Delhi will together open silver exhibition , Silver treasures from Denmark and India in the beginning of March ”. He added “The exhibition will focus upon similarities and differences in Danish and Indian silversmithing, where both the museums will showcase best silver objects from their collections. We are looking forward about how the exhibition will be perceived by Indian audiences’’.
On the occasion, Ms. Lily Pandeya, Director General National Museum and Joint Secretary, Ministry of Culture said that, “The National Museum India has a substantial collection of exquisite Silver Objects which belong to a vast timeline, starting from the beginning of the Indian civilization to the modern era. However, for this exhibition, to understand the story of Indian Silver alongside the Danish Silver around 100 objects have been selected from the reserve collection of the National Museum India to highlight the diverse and dynamic craftsmanship of Indian Silver. The National Museum is very happy to be collaborating with the Kolding Museum, Denmark. This exhibition will indeed be one of its kinds where the splendour of Indian and Danish silver together will be a delight for the audiences.”

2-Nov-2022: Cabinet approves signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between India and Denmark on cooperation in the field of Water Resources Development and Management
The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, was apprised of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between India and Denmark on cooperation in the field of Water Resources Development and Management.
Broad areas of cooperation envisaged in the MoU are:
- Digitalisation and ease of information access
- Integrated and smart water resources development and management;
- Aquifer mapping, groundwater modelling, monitoring and recharge;
- Efficient and sustainable water supply at household level, including reduction of non-revenue water and energy consumption;
- River and water body rejuvenation to enhance liveability, resilience and economic development;
- Water quality monitoring and management;
- Sewage/wastewater treatment including circular economy for reuse/recycling of wastewater, including comprehensive sludge management and maximizing use of renewable energy in field of water supply and sanitation;
- Climate change mitigation and adaptation, including nature based solutions.
- River centric urban planning including urban flood management
Nature based liquid waste abatement measures for peri-urban and rural areas.
The MoU will thus broadly strengthen cooperation in the field of water resources development and management; rural water supply; and sewage/wastewater treatment through direct collaboration between officials, academics, water sectors and industry in the areas under scope of cooperation.
Background:
Ms. Mette Frederiksen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Denmark and shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of the Republic of India, co-chaired a Virtual Summit between India and Denmark on 28 September 2020 and launched a Joint Statement on Establishment of Green Strategic Partnership between the two countries. The joint statement, inter-alia, envisioned co-operation in the field of Environment / Water and circular economy and Sustainable Urban Development including Smart Cities.
After meeting Prime Minister of Denmark Prime Minister, Ms. Mette Frederiksen during her visit to India on 09th October 2021, as follow up of Joint Statement on Green Strategic Partnership, Prime Minister, amongst other things made following declaration:
- Establishment of Centre of Excellence for Smart Water Resources Management (CoESWaRM)
- Establishment of a Lab for Clean Rivers in Varanasi on the lines of Smart City Lab in Panji
A Letter of Intent was signed between Ministry of Jal Shakti, Gol and Ministry of Environment, Govt. of Denmark on 03 May, 2022 during visit of Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of the Republic of India to Denmark. Letter of Intent was signed with an intent to enter into a broad-based MoU that will inter -alia cover two new initiative; a Centre of Excellence for Smart Water Resources Management and a smart Lab on Clean River waters in Varanasi. Basic purpose of the proposed cooperation is to ensure safe and secure water to meet present & future demands through holistic and sustainable approach.
As a follow up of Letter of Intent, an MoU between DoWR, RD & GR, Government of India and Ministry of Environment. Government of Denmark was signed on 12.09.2022 during visit of Hon'ble Minister of Jal Shakti to Denmark.
14-Mar-2022: A high level delegation led by Danish Minister of Health, Mr Magnus Heunicke calling on Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh at New Delhi
Danish Minister of Health, Magnus Heunicke called on Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology; Minister of State (Independent Charge) Earth Sciences; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh and discussed joint training programmes for health workers.
Magnus Heunik informed Dr Jitensra Singh that the Novo Nordisk Foundation of Denmark is preparing a US $100 Million project for implementation in India, inspired by the success of the temporary hospitals project. This project will focus on research-guided training of health workers in cardio-metabolic diseases and the program will create a sustainable system for training health workers in non-pharma management of early stage diabetes and other such CMD diseases.
A delegation led by the Danish Minister of Health reviewed with their Indian counterparts, the progress of bilateral cooperation particularly in areas like Green Strategic Partnership.
Dr Jitendra Singh recalled that during the second wave of the Covid pandemic, the Danish Embassy in India facilitated a grant of Danish Kroner 10 million (almost Rs 12 crore) from the Novo Nordisk Foundation to support emergency hospitals in India. He said, six such hospitals are already functioning: two in Punjab, and one each in Haryana, Nagaland and Assam, and two more are under construction in Meghalaya and Nagaland. These hospitals were established within a very short period, through Innovative materials and processes, including by startups.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, these hospitals were established in the States with support from Indian organisations C-CAMP (Bengaluru) and Invest India and this entire exercise is an example of Foreign-Union-State-Private cooperation, with support from the Indian startup and corporate sector as well. The Minister said that such partnerships between Indian and Danish non-government and private sectors are a sign of the strong relationship between our two countries.
Dr Jitendra Singh recalled that in January this year, India & Denmark agreed to initiate joint research and development on green fuels including green hydrogen, during the Joint S&T Committee meeting held in Delhi.
The Joint Committee discussed national strategic priorities and developments in Science, Technology, and Innovation of both countries with a special focus on green solutions of the future - strategy for investments in green research, technology, and innovation at the virtual meeting.
The committee emphasised on development of bilateral collaboration on mission-driven research, innovation, and technology development, including climate and green transition, energy, water, waste, food, and so on as agreed by the two Prime Ministers while adopting the Green Strategic Partnership – Action Plan 2020-2025. They agreed to organise 3-4 webinars for partnership development and stressed on promoting call for proposals in green fuels, including green hydrogen.
The Joint Committee also reviewed the progress of the ongoing projects of last two joint calls being implemented in the areas of energy research; water; cyber-physical systems, and bioresources & secondary agriculture.

H.E Ms. Pooja Kapur, Ambassador of India in Denmark, and H.E. Mr. Freddy Svane, Ambassador of Denmark in New Delhi, also addressed the Joint Committee. On the Indian side, representatives from the Department of Science & Technology, Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Earth Sciences, and Council of Scientific & Industrial Research participated in the deliberations.
