India-Guyana Air Services Agreement

22-Feb-2023: Air Services Agreement between India and Guyana

The Union Cabinet of India has approved an Air Services Agreement with Guyana, providing a legal framework for air operations between the two countries. The ASA is crucial for providing seamless connectivity and commercial opportunities for carriers of both sides.

With a significant Indian presence in Guyana, this agreement enables provision of air services between the two countries. The agreement is a part of India's efforts to pave the way for international air connectivity and will come into effect after diplomatic notes are exchanged.

The ASA is based on the principles of sovereignty of nations, nationality of carriers, and reciprocity, and India and Guyana are both signatories to the Convention on International Civil Aviation.

Fact: Indians comprise about 40% of the population of Guyana.
