9-Dec-2021: Projects under NERUDP scheme
Under North Eastern Region Urban Development Programme (NERUDP), 84 projects/packages were sanctioned in five capital cities out of which 62 projects/packages have been completed and remaining 22 project are in various stages of implementation for which the NERUDP has been extended till 31.03.2022. Till date, an amount of Rs. 1332.41 crore has been spent on these projects under three tranches of Asian Development Bank’s loan/ Govt. of India financing.

Government has been consistently pursuing its efforts towards the development of North Eastern Region (NER). Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, through its schemes of Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) and the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS), Schemes of North Eastern Council (NEC), and North East Road Sector Development Scheme (NERSDS) has taken steps to bridge the social and physical infrastructure gaps in the North Eastern Region (NER).

There is mandatory earmarking of funds (10% of the Gross Budgetary Support) by non-exempted 54 Ministries/Departments for NER to ensure continuous fund flows to fill the backlog and gaps in basic services and infrastructure in the region.

Further, under Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (State) Scheme out of 1635 sanctioned projects worth Rs.16233.79 crore, 1204 projects worth Rs.9557.19 crore have been completed, while 431 projects worth Rs.6676.59 crore are ongoing. Also under Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (Central) Scheme being implemented by North Eastern Council, there are five ongoing projects with sanctioned cost of Rs. 928.46 crore out of which Rs. 921.23 crore has been released.

For development of socio-economic infrastructure in NER, the Government of India through its North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDs) has sanctioned 110 projects worth Rs.2563.14 crore against which Rs.1340.96 crore has been released. In addition, 22 health projects worth Rs.424.51 crore have been sanctioned since 01.04.2020 for strengthening health infrastructure of North Eastern States and combating outbreak of pandemic. Also, for holistic and inclusive development of specific areas in NER, various projects are being undertaken under Hill Area Development Projects, Bodoland Territorial Council, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Territorial Council and Social and Infrastructure Development Fund.

Moreover, under ‘Schemes of NEC’ and North East Road Sector Development Scheme (NERSDS) also being implemented by North Eastern Council, during the last seventeen years, 1446 projects costing Rs. 14040.61 crore have been sanctioned. Out of these, 796 projects costing Rs. 6783.47 crore have been completed and 650 projects costing Rs. 7257.14 crore are at various stages of implementation.
