6-Apr-2022: Reservation to OBCs

As per details available with the Department-

  1. The following States have provided 27% to OBCs:- Assam, NCT of Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana (27% in Class III & IV posts, 10% in Class I & II posts), Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, Daman & Diu.
  2. The following States have given more than 27% reservation to OBCs:- Andhra Pradesh (29%), Bihar (33%), Karnataka (32%), Kerala (40%), Tamil Nadu (50%), Andaman & Nicobar (38%), Puducherry (34%).
  3. The following States have given less than 27% reservation to OBCs:- Chhattisgarh (14%), Himachal Pradesh (12% in Category-I posts & 18% in Category-II posts), Jharkhand (14%), Madhya Pradesh (14%), Manipur (17%), Punjab (12%), Rajasthan (21%), Sikkim (21%), Uttarakhand (14%), West Bengal (17%), Dadra & Nagar Haveli (5%).
  4. The following States have not given any reservation to OBCs:- Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Lakshadweep.

The reservation policy in State/UT Government services etc. is decided and implemented by the concerned Governments, while keeping in view the interests of the citizens of the State/UT. The Central Government has no role in deciding the reservation policy of State Government.

29-Jul-2021: Reservation for OBC Category and for Economically Weaker Sections in Medical Education seats

The Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah welcomed the Modi Government’s decision to give reservation for OBC Category and for economically weaker sections in medical education seats. In his tweets, Shri Amit Shah said, “I congratulate Shri Narendra Modi on the historic decision to provide 27 percent reservation for OBC category and 10 percent reservation for economically weaker section in All India Quota Scheme in undergraduate and postgraduate (PG Medical/Dental courses) in the field of medical education”

The Union Home Minister further said, “By fulfilling this long pending demand, the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has shown the commitment of the government towards the welfare of backward class and economically weaker section. About 5,550 students will be benefited by this decision of Modi government.”

Under this scheme, along with the 27 percent reservation for OBCs, 10 percent reservation for EWS is also being extended in All India Quota (AIQ) seats for all the undergraduate / postgraduate medical/dental courses from the current academic year 2021-22.

15-Jul-2019: Reservation of Limboo and Tamang Communities

A proposal for reservation of seats for Limboo and Tamang communities in Sikkim Legislative Assembly is under consideration of the Government of India.

Article 371F(f) and Article 332 of the Constitution of India govern reservation of seats in the Legislative Assembly of Sikkim and the issue of seat reservation for Limboo and Tamang communities is being considered under these provisions of Constitution of India.
