13-Oct-2022: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal Launches Solar-Electric Hybrid High Speed Ferry and Inaugurates Floating Jetties at Panaji

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal launched a Solar-Electric Hybrid High Speed Ferry and inaugurated a Floating Jetty project today at Panaji. Both projects are expected to boost tourism in Goa while making transport more environment friendly.

The Minister inaugurated the Jetty project and then proceeded to board the Solar-Electric Hybrid High Speed Ferry. Funded by the Inland Waterways Authority of India, the three jetties commissioned today were built at a project cost of 9.6 Crore. The jetties are solid concrete structures that float on water, are easy to install and have minimal environmental impact in their construction. The Solar-Electric Hybrid High Speed Ferry project is funded by the Government of Goa at a cost of over 3.9 crores and has a carrying capacity of 60 passengers. The Hybrid design allows for reduction in operating costs by eliminating the dependence on fossil fuels and presents a more environmentally friendly form of transport.

Speaking at the event, Union Minister Sonowal praised the scenic beauty of Goa and added that these two projects will enable the state to attract more tourists. Such projects will help convert Goa as one of the most attractive destinations in the country, he pointed. He added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has taken massive strides in port modernization.

Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that solar electric hybrid will help reduce the state’s dependence on fossil fuels. Goa Government will introduce and operate more solar ferry boats all over Goa, informed the Chief Minister. Also present at the event were Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Tourism, Shripad Naik, Ministers from the Goa State Government and others.

11-Oct-2022: Shri Nitin Gadkari Launches first of its kind pilot project on Flexi-Fuel Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicles (FFV-SHEV) in India

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari Launched Toyota’s first of its kind pilot project on Flexi-Fuel Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicles (FFV-SHEV) in India today  which would run on 100% petrol as well as 20 to 100% blended ethanol and electric power. Union Ministers  Shri Mahendranath Pandey , Shri Bhupender Yadav, Union MoS Shri Rameswar Teli , Karnataka Minister Dr. Shri Murugesh Nirani , Vice-chairman of Toyota Kirloskar Motors Pvt. Ltd. Shri Vikram Kirloskar and MD & CEO of Toyota Kirloskar Motor Mr. Masakazu Yoshimura were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering Shri Gadkari said 6 to 8 percent increase in agricultural growth rate is necessary for AtmaNirbhar Bharat. He emphasized on importance of converting surplus foodgrains and sugar  into ethanol for boosting rural economy.

Encouraging  'Anndatas' to become 'Urjadatas', The Minister said the success of this pilot project will create an ecosystem of electric vehicles and make NewIndia, a global leader in the manufacture of these electric vehicles. He said such technologies are innovative, revolutionary, sustainable, cost-effective, energy-efficient & will completely transform the transportation sector in New India.

28-Jul-2022: Intelligent Transport System

GSR notification 575(E) dated 11th August, 2022 provides for Electronic Monitoring and Enforcement of Road Safety which mandates that State Government shall ensure that appropriate electronic enforcement devices are placed at high risk and high density corridors on National Highways and State Highways.

Provision of Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) is envisaged in high traffic density corridors which has provisions for close circuit Television (CCTV)/Pan, tilt and zoom (PTZ) cameras, Variable message signs, Vehicle Actuated Speed Display System, Automatic Traffic Counter cum Classifier, and Video Incident Detection System.

Implementation of the above will improve the response time of the onsite assistance and help in disseminating of important information to road users thereby making them more aware.

The expenditure on implementation of the technology would vary from project to project. Advanced Traffic management System (ATMS) is implemented on Eastern Peripheral Expressway with an expenditure of Rs. 187.00 crores.

A standing Committee has been constituted for vetting of specifications pertaining to Intelligent Transport System (ITS) which includes Industry Experts, Technical Experts, authority Representatives. The mandate of the committee is to review and vet specifications of a project.
