9-Dec-2022: Army Hospital (R&R) Organises Seminar on Tropical and Environmental Neurological Diseases

A Conference on “Update on Tropical and Environmental Neurological diseases, AFMS Perspective” was organised by the Department of Neurology, Army Hospital (Research and Referral), Delhi Cantt on 8th and 9th December 2022. This academic programme is endorsed by the Indian Academy of Neurology and Delhi Medical Council.

The Conference brought together eminent neurologists from Armed forces, both serving and retired, as well as esteemed academicians from illustrious medical institutes of the country like AIIMS, Delhi. Among the speakers were eminent Neurologists like Lt Gen KK Singh (Retd), Padmashri MV Padma Srivastava, Lt Gen CS Narayanan (Retd), Padmashri Dr Harsh Mahajan and Padmashri Col(Dr) PK Sethi(Retd).

Lt Gen AK Jindal, Commandant, Army Hospital (R&R) inaugurated the conference and highlighted the importance of such programmes which dwell upon the problems peculiar to the tropical nature of our country and especially the defence personnel in view of challenges posed by their multiple exposures to the extremes of environment ranging from high altitude to dry deserts. Lt Gen KK Singh (Retd), while delivering the keynote address highlighted the wide spectrum of tropical diseases including COVID related neurological disorders and their huge neurological burden on the patients and health services.

The younger minds of budding physicians and neurologists who attended the conference gained immensely from the wealth of shared experience in the field of neuroscience.

1-Jan-2021: Surgeon Vice Admiral Rajat Datta takes over as Director General Armed Forces Medical Services

Surgeon Vice Admiral Rajat Datta assumed the charge of Director General, Armed Forces Medical Services on 01 Jan 2021.

Prior to assuming the present appointment, the Flag Officer held the post of DGMS (Navy) and Comdt, Army Hospital (R&R) Delhi Cantt & Col Comdt.

He is an alumnus of Armed Forces Medical College, Pune and after completing his MBBS in 1982, was commissioned into AMC on 27 Dec 1982.

V Admiral Rajat Datta had been holding the prestigious appointment of Comdt AFC, New Delhi.  He was also Addl. DGMS (Army) New Delhi. He had been holding the appointment of MG Med, HQ Central Command and Comdt, CH (CC) Lucknow. He is a renowned teacher and in addition to being the Professor of Cardiology is also an examiner for several Universities and Post Graduate Medical Institutions in India.

The Flag Officer is appointed as Honorary Surgeon to the President of India from 01 Feb 2020. He is a Fellow of Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, USA.

For his dedication and devotion to the service he was awarded VSM in 2005, SM (D) in 2014 and AVSM in 2017.
