1-Jan-2022: Shri Dharmendra Pradhan launched ‘Padhe Bharat’, a 100 days reading campaign, calls on “young friends” to share their reading list.

Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan launched a 100 days reading campaign 'Padhe Bharat' today.  The launch of 100 Days Reading Campaign is in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020  which emphasises on promotion of joyful reading culture for children by ensuring availability of age appropriate reading books for children in local/mother tongue/regional/tribal Language.

The Minister while launching the campaign has underlined importance of reading that children needs to develop to ensure continuous and lifelong learning. He also reinforced that the habit of reading, if inculcated at an early age, helps in brain development and enhances imagination and provide a conducive learning environment for children.

Shri Pradhan emphasised that reading is the foundation of learning, which motivates students to read books independently, develops creativity, critical thinking, vocabulary and the ability to express both verbally and in writing. It helps children to relate to their surroundings and real life situation, he added. He stressed on the need to create an enabling environment in which students read for pleasure and develop their skills through a process that is enjoyable and sustainable and which remains with them for life.

Shri Pradhan shared the names of the 5 books that I have picked to begin reading. He encouraged everyone to adopt the habit of reading books and urged all to share what they are reading along with suggestions.

Padhe Bharat  campaign will focus on children studying in Balvatika to Grade 8.The reading campaign will be organised for 100 days (14 weeks) starting from 1st January 2022 to 10th April 2022.The reading campaign aims to have participation of all stakeholders at national and state level including children, teachers, parents, community, educational administrators etc. One activity per week per group has been designed with the focus on making reading enjoyable and build lifelong association with the joy of reading. This campaign has also been aligned with the vision and goals of foundational Literacy and Numeracy mission.

The 100 days reading campaign will also focus on Indian languages including mother tongue/local/regional languages. It is in this regard, 21st February which is celebrated as International Mother Tongue Day, has also been integrated with this campaign. This day will be celebrated with the activity of Kahani Padho Apni Bhasa Main (Reading story in own language) across the country by encouraging children to read in their mother tongue/local language. This will help in promoting local language and culture of our society.

Hence, 100 days Reading Campaign is envisaged to support and encourage students, along with their schools, teachers, parents, and communities, in every possible way and encourage children to read for joyful learning experience. Department of School Education & Literacy invites all stakeholders to participate wholeheartedly in this campaign to build strong foundation for our children.

17-Dec-2021: Development of Bio-Toilets by DRDO

The major features of bio-toilet developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)are as under:

  • It makes use of an anaerobic (without oxygen) process through which the human waste is digested by consortium of bacteria;
  • Bio-toilet has been customized and different designs have been developed for use under different geo-climatic conditions.

The Cow dung is used for the enrichment bacterial consortium. Following four types of bacteria are present in the consortium:

  • Hydrolase
  • Acidogenase
  • Acitogenase
  • Methogens

DRDO has transferred the technology to approximately 60 industries all over the country. These industries have installed bio-digesters across the country. A total number of about 16000 bio-digesters have been installed in more than 20 states. In addition, more than 2.5 lakhs bio-digesters have been installed in Indian Railways coaches, which cater to the need of more than 100 lakh passengers on daily basis.

9-Dec-2021: Over 1 lakh people getting pension directly into their bank accounts through SAMPANN project

More than One Lakh pensioners are currently being serviced by Principal Controller of Communication Accounts/ Controller of Communication Accounts offices all over India via SAMPANN which has improved the service delivery to pensioners by providing a single window setup ensuring the following benefits:

  • Timely settlement of pension cases
  • Provision of e-Pension Payment Order
  • Login for each pensioner enables access to key information like payment history
  • Online submission of grievances and timely SMS alerts

It has ensured recurring monthly savings to the Government of India on account of Commission being paid to Banks/Post Offices for payment of Pension which approximately amounts to Rs.

11.5 Crores as of June, 2021.

SAMPANN – ‘System for Accounting and Management of Pension’ is an ambitious project of Government of India being implemented by Controller General of Communication Accounts, Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications. It was dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister  Shri Narendra Modi on 29th December, 2018. It is a seamless online pension processing and payment system for Department of Telecommunications pensioners. It provides direct credit of pension into the bank accounts of pensioners.

The system has helped the Department in faster settlement of pension cases, improved reconciliation/auditing and ease of accounting.

SAMPANN has also been instrumental in settling close to 76000 BSNL Voluntary Retirement Scheme 2019 cases in a short span of 6 months.

SAMPANN is a system with a flexible design which enables it to accommodate ever expanding requirements.
