3-May-2017: Cabinet approves MoU on Urea manufacturing Plant in Malaysia

The Union Cabinet has given its ex-post facto approval to the signing of Memorandum of Understanding with Malaysia on development of a Urea and Ammonia manufacturing plant in Malaysia with off take to India and/or off take of existing surplus Urea from Malaysia to India.

The project is expected to cost US$ 2.1 billion with capacity to produce 2.4 million tonnes of Urea and 1.35 million tonnes of Ammonia per annum and dedicated supplying to Indian market.

The signing of MoU will ensure consistent supply of Urea and Ammonia to cater the need of the country at a lower price, if agreed to by both the participants.

24-Apr-2017: Northeast India's largest IT hub opens in Tripura

Northeast India's sixth and largest Information Technology (IT) hub was inaugurated to boost employment and e-governance besides to export software technology.

The IT hub was set up at a cost of Rs 50 crore. This IT hub would help to create employment opportunities for the IT educated youths and to further extend the e-governance to the door step of people.

The STPI, under the union Ministry of Electronic and Information Technology, shared technological knowledge with the state government to set up this hub, sixth of its kind in northeast India and largest such hub in the region.

Tripura last year got the award from the central government for its performance in IT and e-governance. Many e-governance based facilities and services already extended up to gram panchayat level in Tripura.

In the new IT hub, ready-to-use incubation space would be available for start-up companies, aspiring entrepreneurs, Indian and multi-national companies as per their requirements.

1-Apr-2017: Union Textiles Minister launches PowerTex India

The Government has launched PowerTex India, a comprehensive scheme for power-loom sector development, simultaneously at over 45 locations in the country.

Powerloom sector alone employs over 44 lakh people. The PowerTex India scheme will especially benefit small powerloom weavers.

The comprehensive scheme has the following components:

  1. In-situ Upgradation of Plain Powerlooms
  2. Group Workshed Scheme (GWS)
  3. Yarn Bank Scheme
  4. Common Facility Centre (CFC)
  5. Pradhan Mantri Credit Scheme for Powerloom Weavers
  6. Solar Energy Scheme for Powerlooms
  7. Facilitation, IT, Awareness, Market Development and Publicity for Powerloom Schemes
  8. Tex Venture Capital Fund
  9. Grant-in-Aid and Modernisation & Upgradation of Powerloom Service Centres (PSCs)
