Under the Central Government Hospitals A category, the first prize of Rs. 3 crore was given to the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi. JIPMER, Puducherry was judged as the runner-up in this category with Rs. 1.5 crore prize money, and Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER),Chandigarh and Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi won the Commendation Award of Rs. 50 Lakh each. 

In the group B category, the winner was VBCH, Silvassa winning Rs. 2 crore, with AIIMS Bhubaneswar as the runner-up winning Rs. 1 crore. NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, LGBRIMH, Tezpur and AIIMS, Bhopal each won Rs. 50 lakhs as Commendation Award. Dr. Harsh Vardhan also felicitated the District Hospitals, PHCs and CHCs, wherein 29 hospitals won the First Prize, 14 were awarded the Second Prize and the Third Prize was won by 2 hospitals. In the current year, for the holistic and comprehensive improvement across the health sector, the Kayakalp scheme was extended to private sector health facilities; 11 private health facilities were felicitated at the event.

The Kayakalp Award was  instituted as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan  on 15th May 2015 as a national initiative to recognize and felicitate public health facilities that demonstrate high levels of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control measure on promoting cleanliness in public spaces. Over the period, the number of facilities under Kayakalp rose from 750 health facilities in 2015-16 to more than 26000 facilities in 2018-19. The number of facilities that got the Kayakalp awards also increased from 97 2015-16 to 1539 facilities in 2016-17 and 2962 in 2017-18. For FY 2018-19, 4820 healthcare facilities have received Kayakalp awards.

19-Apr-2018: Kayakalp awards given to felicitate Public Health Facilities for maintaining high standards of sanitation and hygiene.

The awards to the winners were given under various categories. Under the Central Government Hospitals A category, the first prize of Rs 2.5 Crore was given to the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi. Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh was judged as the runner-up in this category with Rs. 1.5 crore prize money. Commendation Award of Rs. 50 Lakh was given to JIPMER, Puducherry along with Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi. MGIMS, Wardha received the Certificate of Appreciation. 

In the group B category, the winner was NEIGRIHMS, Shillong with Rs 1.50 Crore and the Runner-Up was AIIMS, Bhubaneswar with Rs 1.00 Crore. Commendation Award of Rs 50 Lakh was given to NIMHANS, Bengaluru, AIIMS, Rishikesh, AIIMS, Raipur, NITRD, New Delhi and AIIMS, Bhopal . AIIMS, Jodhpur received the Certificate of Appreciation.

Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Shri J P Nadda also felicitated the District Hospitals, PHCs and CHCs for winning the awards in their respective states and union territory.

Kayakalp - Award to Public Health Facilities” was  instituted as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan  on 15th May 2015 as a National Initiative to give Awards to those public health facilities that demonstrate high levels of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control focuses on promoting cleanliness in public spaces. The initiative was started with District Hospitals and 10 Central Government Institutes in 2015. In 2016, CHC, SDH, PHC, and 6 new AIIMS were added. Last year, urban health facilities along with 21 Central Government Institutes also joined the mission of Swachhta.

Under the Central Government Hospitals category, the first prize of Rs 5 Crore was given to the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi. North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong got the second prize of Rs 3 Crores and Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh received the third prize of Rs 1 Crore. Commendation awards of Rs 50 lakh each were given to AIIMS, Raipur, AIIMS, Jodhpur and National Institute of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases (NITRD), Delhi.

Shri J P Nadda also felicitated the District Hospitals, PHCs and CHCs for winning the awards in their respective states and union territory. 

The Kayakalp scheme launched in 2015 covered 10 Central Government Institutions and District Hospitals in the year of launch. This year the scheme expanded coverage to 16 Central Government institutions including 6 new AIIMSs and all Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and Community Health Centres (CHCs). Thus, in the current year the Kayakalp assessment in States covered over 700 District hospitals, over 5,000 CHCs and over 25,000 PHCs. The system adopted for central Government institutions follows a two tier assessment process of internal and external assessment followed by decision by a Jury constituted in the Ministry. Eight (8) external assessment teams were constituted for assessment of the 16 Central Government institutions. In the states, Kayakalp awards are declared based on score arrived at through a three tier assessment system of internal, peer and external assessment.
